Program Description

The School of Nursing's Online RN to BSN program at Sacramento State is designed to advance the associate degree RN to the next level in the profession, preparing the graduate BSN for professional leadership roles in society.  The Online RN to BSN program will offer students the convenience of multiple start dates every year. Courses will be 8 weeks in length.   The program includes an optional Community/Public Health clinical course (NURS 174C). Completion of the full program of study, along with the optional NURS 174C, qualifies students to apply for a Public Health Nurse (PHN) certificate from the California Board of Registered Nursing. The School of Nursing strongly recommends NURS 174C for all students.   

Admission Requirements

  • Prerequisite courses must be completed prior to admission; 
  • Must possess a current valid California registered nursing license prior to enrolling in the second term of the RN to BSN program;
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.6 upon completion of qualifying nursing program 
  • Admission to Sacramento State including official transcripts of all institutions attended; 
  • Completed RN to BSN online application; 
  • Program admission is contingent upon meeting health-screening and clearance requirements outlined in the RN to BSN handbook.

  • Anatomy or Anatomy and Physiology I (with a lab)
  • Physiology or Anatomy and Physiology II (with a lab)
  • Microbiology (with a lab)
  • Chemistry (integrated or organic chemistry is not required)
  • Written Communication
  • Oral Communication
  • Statistics
  • Critical Thinking

Note: In Progress Policy: Classes may be in progress prior to admission. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted for in-progress classes but must be replaced with official transcripts.
